چکیده

We present an EPR spectrometer featuring an arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) operating at 8–10 GHz (X-band) that is based on a 1 GHz digital-to-analog converter (DAC) boardwith a 42 dB (i.e. 14-bit) dynamic range. This AWG-capable spectrometer was developedto widen the scope of pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and enable new experiments. It generates shaped X-band pulses with precise amplitude and phase control and can specify inter-pulse delays with a time resolution of ≤250 ps. We demonstrate the capabilities of the spectrometer by presenting spin-echo measurements that implement an entirely digitally controlled and calibrated 16-step phase cycle and by measuring the excitation profiles seen by the spins in the microwave resonator as they respond to various pulse shapes, including rectangular, triangular, Gaussian, sinc, and adiabatic rapid passage waveforms. Potential applications of these capabilities, and their implementation in commercial instrumentation, will be discussed.

DAC-board based X-band EPR spectrometer with arbitrary waveform control.

We present arbitrary control over a homogenous spin system, demonstrated on a simple, home-built, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrometer operating at 8-10 GHz (X-band) and controlled by a 1 GHz arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) with 42 dB (i.e. 14-bit) of dynamic range. Such a spectrometer can be relatively easily built from a single DAC (digital to analog converter) board with a m...

Broadband Transmission EPR Spectroscopy

EPR spectroscopy employs a resonator operating at a single microwave frequency and phase-sensitive detection using modulation of the magnetic field. The X-band spectrometer is the general standard with a frequency in the 9-10 GHz range. Most (bio)molecular EPR spectra are determined by a combination of the frequency-dependent electronic Zeeman interaction and a number of frequency-independent i...

A 94 GHz EPR Spectrometer with Fabry-Perot Resonator

An EPR spectrometer is described working in the 94 GHz (W-band) frequency range. It comprises a Fabry-Perot type microwave resonator connected to a conventional microwave bridge, a phase lock loop for microwave frequency stabilization, and a superconducting magnet. The improved separation of W-band spectra from two sites with only slightly different ^-factors is demonstrated using an a-bromo ra...

Low-Distortion Sinewave Generation Method Using Arbitrary Waveform Generator

This paper describes algorithms for generating a low-distortion single-tone signal, for testing ADCs, using an arbitrary waveform generator (AWG). The AWG consists of DSP (or waveform memory) and DAC, and the nonlinearity of the DAC generates distortion components. We propose here to use DSP algorithms to precompensate for the distortion. The DSP part of the AWG can interleave multiple signals ...

A Q-band pulse EPR/ENDOR spectrometer and the implementation of advanced one- and two-dimensional pulse EPR methodology.

A versatile high-power pulse Q-band EPR spectrometer operating at 34.5--35.5 GHz and in a temperature range of 4--300 K is described. The spectrometer allows one to perform one- and two-dimensional multifrequency pulse EPR and pulse ENDOR experiments, as well as continuous wave experiments. It is equipped with two microwave sources and four microwave channels to generate pulse sequences with di...
